Our culture, more or less, says: “I am not the religious type.”

—While they are looking at us.
They see religion.

I am religious about caffeine.
I am religious about setting my cruise control at 64 mph.
I am religious about sorta obscure great music.
I did lose my Hollister religion.  Replaced it with H & M.

But I am always surprised when people I know tell me–in reference to newlife or Jesus or me: “No thanks…I’m not the religious type.”  HUH?

Dear unchurched friend-for-life: how am I giving off a religious odor?
Is it the invitation to a gathering?
An invitation to something “organized?”
THAT could be a clue.

So, what does it mean…Jesus is greater than religion?
And what does it look like to give up religion for Lent?
If Jesus is greater than religion—does that mean I might have to change too?
No wonder good Pharisees’ deodorant failed around Jesus.
