Family info
Kari and I have been married 14 years – We have three kids Kali (11), Austin (8), Klara (3).
How did you come to newlife?
I got asked to start newlife – prayed about it and begged my friends to help – my favorite memories was one week before our first public gathering, one of our key leaders (there was only 14 of us so we were all key) said, “Wes, I don’t want to burst your bubble but I don’t think anyone is going to come.” It was a “What if we fail moment” and a good gut check for everyone. My response was basically – If we fail, we fail but we won’t know unless we try. It’s amazing to me what God has done and it’s even more amazing that he used us to get it started.
Favorite color
I don’t.
Favorite food
I absolutely love hamburgers and I’m on a quest for the best hamburger in the U.S. – Let me know if you have any ideas.
What is your role at newlife?
Lead pastor
What is the best part about your role?
I love the feeling of being on a team and doing something together that we didn’t believe possible but something we thought God asked us to step out and do. I love watching people get involved in the mission of Jesus who never thought of themselves as “the church type”. I love watching people grow and change and become more like Jesus and I absolutely love the reaction and the expression on people’s faces the first time that they actually get “grace”.
What is your favorite place on the earth?
My backyard (It’s where I get to play baseball and basketball with my kids), the basketball court, and anywhere with Kari.
What makes you laugh?
Seinfeld.
What makes you cry?
I used to never cry but now that I have kids I pretty much tear up every time I watch a disney movie (Mulan and Lion King get me every time).
If you could be on any reality television show, which one would it be?
Not “Survivor” because I’d be the first one kicked out. Either “Last Comic Standing” or “Dancing with the Stars” because I’d like love to be able to tango with Kari.
What do you count as the greatest invention of the last 100 years?
Other than glow in the dark stuff – I think it would be drip coffee.
